Cherry Turnovers

You’ve probably noticed I’ve been on a cherry kick lately.  Hope you’re okay with that because it’s not about to end any time soon :) While I’ve made turnovers before, I’ve kinda cheated and used frozen puff-pastry dough.  This time I decided to make them totally from scratch… dough and all.  If you’ve got cherries – or other fruit – this is one seriously tasty way to put them to good use.  Dress them up with a scoop of vanilla ice cream as a dessert or dress them way down with nothing at all (yes, that means nekkid!) as breakfast.  Either way, whatever the need, you’ll want to make these!

I first saw these on my friend Jamie’s blog and she got the recipe from Recipe Girl.  It took me quite a while to get around to making them because until recently the price of fresh cherries was out-of-control.  I’m glad the price went down to normal where mere-mortals like me can afford them because since then I’m the one that’s been out-of-control in baking with them!

This recipe comes together quickly and easily… once you have the cherries pitted, of course ;) … and it’s so truly versatile that you can use your favorite fruit or even canned pie filling!  We really enjoyed these warm, cold, for breakfast or anytime.  But I bet they’re really good served warm with a scoop of vanilla (or cherry vanilla!) ice cream :)  M’mmmm – - – they’re absolutely delicious!

Those sound so good! I’ve been trying to figure out what to bake with my cherries and this is a terrific option. I’m with you – so glad cherries finally came down in price! :)

Bring on the cherries! :) Everytime I go to the grocery I grab a bag of cherries from produce and then put it back just not sure if I’d use ‘em up before they go bad.

My mom would go gaga for this as she LOVES those hostess cherry pies. All they need is a little glaze and she’d be set!

      Hi Eva,
This isn’t puff pastry… though I’ve made a version of that before for the Danish Braid. This is a cream cheese based dough. A whole lot easier than puff pastry :)

      Thanks for stopping by!
