I think it’s been said a time or ten that I love bread. Could one live on bread and water? Given a nice variety of the bread, I do indeed think I could last quite a while :) I’ve lately been going back and trying to “perfect” some classic/staple recipes that I think are important to have in my repertoire. Among these classics is good old fashioned buttermilk biscuits. Done properly, they’re a wonderful addition to a good old fashioned home cooked meal. Done poorly and they make a nice door stop ;) In my quest for buttermilk biscuit “perfection” I’ve decided it comes down to technique just as much as the actual recipe itself. I’ve tried countless recipes… and thrown away a lot of biscuit wanna-be’s but the recipe I’m about to share with you today has just been crowned the winner!

Quite often you have a lil nagging “want’ for something sweet. But you want it quickly… not in a few hours (hey, at least that’s how I am! LOL). In our household, chocolate is King. DH loves it. This week’s Tuesdays with Dorie recipe was the Parisian Apple Tartlette chosen by Jessica of the blog My Baking Heart. I can’t be the only one who seriously loves bread. Let’s see… by a show of hands… who’s with me here? Oh yeah, that’s right… admit it… you love bread too! And while we’re being honest, when you want bread you want it now… not six hours from now after a whole bunch of kneading and a few rises. That kinda waiting can rob you of the enthusiasm for breadmaking. But what if you could make homemade rolls like these in just one hour? One hour… from scratch… not just reheating store bought rolls but actually making these beautiful rolls from scratch in one hour. You’d be intrigued! You’d be enthusiastic! And just like me… you’d do it!!!

This week’s Tuesdays with Dorie recipe was chosen by Tracey of the blog Tracey’s Culinary Adventures and she chose Dorie’s Cinnamon Squares. Pretty much it’s a cinnamon cake with a ribbon of melted chocolate topped by a layer of chocolate icing. According to my family this cake is a real winner! (more…)
