Chocolate Cream Tart – TwD

This week’s Tuesday with Dorie recipe was the Chocolate Cream Tart selected by Kim of Scrumptious Photography.  Once again I couldn’t quite bring myself to do the just standard recipe and instead decided to play around with flavor combinations.  I made a total of three tarts… two 4″ and one 6″. This one above is a 4″ Chocolate Banana Cream tart.  A thin layer of banana flavored cream followed by a thick layer of banana flavored chocolate filling and topped with a layer of banana flavored whipped cream.  DH picked this combo and I used Banana Cream Rum for the flavoring.  It was a total winner in his book!  I had to rush and get photos because he couldn’t wait to taste this… and once he started, well, the nom-nom-nom sounds were not far behind.  He LOVED this!  But remember, I made a total of three tarts.  Sooooooo…. care to see the other two?

This one is a 6″ Chocolate Mint Cream tart and trust me when I say the chocolate filling has a LOT of mint extract added to it.  The vanilla whipped cream pairs beautifully with the serious minty-ness of the chocolate filling.

Having never made or eaten a chocolate tart before I had no idea what to expect.  I was pleasantly surprised at just how good this is!

After these two tarts were done I realized there was one more 4″ shell all baked and ready to go.  Being the citrus lover that I am, I just couldn’t resist making a lemon cream tart :)

But wait!  This week’s recipe is supposed to be CHOCOLATE cream tarts.  How did this lemon one get in the bunch?  Hmmmm… could all that lemony-custardy goodness be concealing something?????

Why yes it is!  It’s concealing a layer of chocolate filling which keeps this CHOCOLATE lemon tart right in line with this week’s theme :)

If you’re interested in Dorie’s Chocolate Cream Tart recipe, it can be found on Kim’s blog or on pages 352-353 of Dorie’s book Baking From My Home To Yours.  The recipe for the lemon cream is from the book Desserts by Pierre Herme.  I gotta tell ya… all three of these combinations were a hit in our household.  DH of course loved the chocolate banana cream tart… the kids loved the chocolate mint cream tart… and well, yanno, I loved the chocolate lemon cream tart (surprise?  yeah, didn’t think so! LOL).  If you’re a fan of lemon, I highly… HIGHLY… recommend trying the chocolate lemon cream tart.  Soooooooo good :)

Have a delicious day!

I actually thought of the same renditions as you did! was figuring out the addition of lemon cream wld be nice at first but saw that I had on pathetic lemon at home, so i turned to flambed bananas in rum and a rum infused chocolate cream in the end. Man oh man, I’m loving your experimentation. The mint chocolate tart is totally up my alley. I wish I could have some RIGHT now. And the lemon one–totally unexpected. I love that it’s hiding the secret chocolate beneath. Great job!! You did the TWD’ers proud :)
